There will be many spa days for these lucky hens. It’s impossible to get through all 3,000 rescued chickens in one day, so we have had to health check the hens in stages. Here are some photos from a health check in Grass Valley, in which two great volunteers, one intern, and one sanctuary staff member helped 65 of the rescued hens feel a whole lot better.

Like 95% of all hens on egg farms, these hens lived in cages so small they could not spread their wings. They certainly could not move around and wear down their nails. This little hen will love being able to walk normally again.
